SmartLPR® ENGINE is the license plate recognition engine of the SmartLPR® family products and the reason for its high degree of reliability.

SmartLPR® ENGINE can offer license plate recognition percentages of up to 98%(*) of the total license plates in circulation, with no distinction of the state of conservation.

The remaining 2%(*) of license plates that are not recognized correctly, correspond to license plates with unknown characters that the unit replaces with question marks. Therefore, the problems caused by character confusions are minimised.

The high rate of license plate recognitions, up to 98%, with practically no confusion of characters and its capture angle of up to 60º (front and zenith) provides an excellent set of performance features to implement any type of license plate reading system.

(*) The degree of reliability depends on the quality of the image, a degree of up to 98% can be obtained when the images have been obtained with SmartLPR® ACCESS. This statistical reliability is obtained with Spanish license plates, with no distinction of the state of conservation of license plates, taking into account the different weather and light conditions. The reliability with license plates from other countries can increase or decrease.

Asked questions

Do we have to use infrared images where the license plate has full contrast?
	No, SmartLPR® ENGINE can work with images in visible light where it is not necessary for the license plate to be in contrast.

Can SmartLPR® ENGINE works in multiple capture mode?
	To read “one” license plate, one or more images can be provided at the same time, so that the recognition engine can choose the optimum image and read the license plate from it.

What information does the recognition engine provide when a character is not read?
	SmartLPR® ENGINE replaces unknown characters with a question mark.

Can SmartLPR® ENGINE detect the license plates of vehicles from other countries?
	SmartLPR® ENGINE incorporates a function that enables the detection of license plates from European and American vehicles. The reliability will be improved and the reading process will be quicker when you select a short list of countries, therefore, we recommend activating only the countries that must be detected in each special case. + See list of countries
